In the winter of 2009 23E Studios founded the not for profit, Earthbound Moon and tasked itself to change human perception of community and capitalism. It is as grand a work of process art as we have yet imagined.
Benefit local communities.
Earthbound Moon creates publicly accessible sites for contemporary sculptures. These will be gathering places, sites of curiosity and engagement and wonder. They will not cure any town's problems, but they will function as a reminder, and a statement on a global scale, of the importance of building and rebuilding our communities for our creative, spiritual, artistic, romantic and leisure needs alongside our commercial and financial needs.
Challenge and inspire artists across mediums.
Earthbound Moon will offer hundreds of artists an opportunity to create site-specific public sculpture. We are looking for sculptures that are integrally situated in the communities they inhabit. Artists will be expected to design and install their works with the ethos and history of the community in mind. We firmly believe that without such engagement in the community we would be enacting the same hubris we are condemning in business.
Create a work of contemporary art unto itself.
we intend for Earthbound Moon itself to be a work of interplanetary conceptual art. Sites will not be just a local artwork/commons, but a node of a larger artwork themselves. Like orchids, each site will be an individual bloom from a single organism that stretches across the human environment.
