23E Studios began developing the idea for Earthbound Moon in Fall 2009 as we researched a way to use the strengths of art and collaborative creation to create an installation for Holyoke, MA. In Summer 2010 we spent a Parson Hall Project Space residency there exploring the possibility of converting a city block and numerous small lots across the city into a sculpture garden. From this project we embarked on Earthbound Moon, to spread globally our conviction that revitalization requires community development alongside commercial development, not as an afterthought.
